Who are your favorite celebrities and why?

So tell me, readers, who your favorite celebrities are, and why?  Your turn to write my blog!  (I’m crazy-busy this week.)  Who do you love?  Who do you hate?  Who do you love to hate?  And why?

  1. I love celebrities with substance, who also have talent and have developed their craft. Meryl Streep comes to mind, of course, because she is a person who seems grounded and real and yet as an actor she is able to transcend a character and take it to a place that very few actors can go.

I hate celebrities that are all glitz and glamour. A dear friend of mine from Italy likes to say, “Not everything that glitters is gold.” I like that.

When it comes to celebrities, I think finding someone who possesses that true gold, is when we witness greatness.

    Some I admire:

    Merryl Streep
    Joan Allen
    Robert Di Nero
    Glenn Close
    Kevin Kline
Maggie Gyllenhaal (however you spell it)
    Ellen Page
    Leonardo DiCapprio
    Kate Winslet
    Annette Benning
    Ellen Degeneris
    Hugh Laurie
    Gene Hackman
    Jane Lynch

…They seem to be about the work

    Some I don’t:

    JLo
    Oprah
    Charlie Sheen
Danny Glover (used to like him, until he became a half-assed activist)
    Mike Farrell (see Danny Glover)
    Martin Sheen (see Mike Farrell)
    Julia Roberts
    Gwyneth Paltrow
    Any of the Desperate Housewives
    The Olsen Twins
Britney and all her whiny-voiced, big boobed, lip-synching clones
    Amy Winehouse
    Madonna
    Cher
    Eliza Dishku
    Natalie Portman
Harrison Ford (face it, every role is just Han Solo all over again)
Anybody from Charmed or any of those “Wiccan” UHF shows
    Tom Cruise

One I’m never sure about: Nicole Kidman. Sometimes she bombs and sometimes she hits a home run.

Another I’m not sure about: Julianne Moore. See Nicole Kidman.

Let’s see, did I forget anyone?
